Patrice Motsepe has made an announcement which will see the Motsepe Foundation partnering with the Premier Soccer League to launch the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The Motsepe Foundation called a press conference in Sandton on Friday morning to reveal to the media that the Motsepe Foundation Championship, bringing an end to the league being known as the GladAfrica Championship.
GladAfrica pulled out as a sponsor ahead of the 2022/23 campaigns, when the fixtures were supposed to be announced next week.
So PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza revealed that he called Motsepe for “a favour” and thanked the Foundation for going out of their way to sponsor the First Division.
GladAfrica had been a sponsor of the second tier for three seasons, coming in at a when the league had spent many years looking for corporate backing for the league.
Now the Motsepe Foundation as has come in to take the league to another level, with more money expected to be pumped into the second tier, to ensure the players and clubs are well looked after.
An announcement on how much clubs will receive will be made by the PSL, who are also expected to release fixtures for the new season next week.
