Joburg emergency services calls off search for missing Soweto boy

Khaya Magadla was playing with friends in Dlamini Park some two weeks ago when he slipped into the sewer system.

Joburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says they have searched through the sewer system and could not find the little boy.

The operation has been handed over to Joburg Water for them to monitor the wastewater system.

“From our side, we have completed the search throughout the pipelines up until the split chamber, the incident has been handed over to Joburg Water they are continuing to monitor the wastewater treatment plant.”

Authorities had deployed robotic equipment in the search operation, including the isolation of a specific reservoir in an attempt to find the missing child, but all the efforts yielded no positive results.
