Maboe can lead Kaizer Chiefs to greater heights, says club legend

Kaizer Chiefs legend William Shongwe has explained the importance of Lebohang Maboe at Amakhosi.

The 31-year-old midfielder has played 19 games for the Soweto giants since joining the club last year. Recently Maboe has been Chiefs’ best player, winning three consecutive man of the match awards.

Shongwe has highlighted Maboe’s brilliance and what makes him important for the Glamour Boys.

“Maboe’s qualities are very important to this Kaizer Chiefs team; all along they had midfielders who could win the ball but could not link with the club’s attacking players,” Shongwe told KickOff.

“And again, he doesn’t lose the ball often. Kaizer Chiefs used to lose the ball from their build-ups and as a result, they would lose from their own mistakes. Maboe has covered all that as he can protect the ball better.

“They don’t concede as much because they are no longer losing the ball in crucial areas. He can lead Chiefs to greater things, they just need to find the right pairing.”

Amakhosi have won four consecutive matches and now sit third in the Betway Premiership with eight matches still to play. Maboe has been intrumental in linking defence and attack, and his form has earned him praise from supporters.

He has since been hailed as the signing of the season for the Glamour Boys. Having won titles with Mamelodi Sundowns, Maboe has no doubt brought his winning mentality and experience to the Kaizer Chiefs team.

Do you think Maboe should be given a new contract?
