Kaizer Chiefs news: Lilepo and Silva deliver goals, Mdu’s form

Kaizer Chiefs have vastly improved in 2026 having secured seven league wins in 10 matches played.

Despite an impressive run, they had a mini-slump around February, where they lost four consecutive matches.

Wins against the likes of Magesi, Durban City, Orbit College and TS Galaxy have seen them climb to third in the Betway Premiership with eight matches still to play.

With rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates still to play, it seems Amakhosi are peaking at the right time.

Which players have impressed for Kaizer Chiefs?

One player who stood out this season has been Glody Lilepo. The Congolese attacker has scored eight goals and provided two assists across all comptitions this season.

Against TS Galaxy this past weekend, Lilepo was once again on target, scoring a brilliant goal by overpowering a defender and scoring from outside the box with the keeper out of his line.

Another player who has impressed lately is Mduduzi Shabalala. The 22-year-old had faced a lot of criticism this season especially in front of goals. His finishing has been poor and squandered many chances which could have won Kaizer Chiefs games.

Since working on his finishing with ex-Amakhosi striker Lehlohonolo Majoro, the young attacker has looked like a different player since the FIFA break. He scored against Orbit College, which has boosted his confidence, as he was again instrumental against TS Galaxy this past weekend.

Flavio Silva has found his scoring boots once again and could very well be the club’s top goalscorer if he keeps scoring. He was jeered in the Soweto derby after a poor showing, but appears to have put the bad performance behind him.

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedirc Kaze insists there’s still more work to be done despite four consecutive wins in the league.

“We need to keep pressure, pressure on everyone, in training, out training to recover well, sleep early and pull in the same direction, the message must be consistent, we can’t relax, we need to be better everyday, concentrate in every training session, it’s the only thing that will keep us in a good space,” he said after the 2-0 win over Galaxy.

Can Chiefs fight for second place?
