Jomo Cosmos could be handed a lifeline and return to the GladAfrica Championship next season with a case against Hungry Lions set to take place next week.
It’s alleged that the Northern Cape outfit could be docked 15 points after fielding Tshepo Mohlala, who Cosmos claim was ineligible to represent them, for 10 games last season.
The former Cosmos academy player is said to not have received his clearance from the club, with club owner Jomo Sono confirming to iDiski Times that they lodged the complaint to the Premier Soccer League.
Sono confirmed that the PSL DC hearing will take place on June 27 and refused to comment further on the case. stating ‘the matter is subjudice’ but went on to confirm that neither the club nor SAFA confirmed the clearance of the player before he went on to join Kaizer Chiefs’ reserve team squad for two seasons.
“I can’t say much about the case as it’s happening next week but the player or the club won’t be able to produce the clearance because there is none,” Sono confirmed.
He went on to distance himself from the move to Chiefs before landing up at Hungry Lions this season stating; “That’s not for me to discuss right now.”
“The player has never been cleared nor released by Jomo Cosmos Football Club and hence any games played for Hungry Lions Football Club constitute a breach of NSL handbook rules 30,31 and 32,” read part of the charge of the PSL sheet this website has in its possession.
Ezenkosi finished the 2021/22 GladAfrica Championship campaign in 15th position with 28 points in their 30 matches and 11th placed Hungry Lions finished with 36 points, meaning the deduction would leave them 21 points and in 16th place.
