Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Andile Jali has spoken about winning his third ‘trophy treble’ in his career.

Jali was part of the Orlando Pirates team that won two back-to-back ‘trebles’ which was a first in South African football history. The treble he won with the Buccaneers included two league titles. After that, the ‘Matatiele’ born midfielder left the country to join KV Oostende in Belgium where he made 124 appearances in all competitions.

The 32-year-old returned to South Africa in July 2018 and that’s when he joined the 12-time Premier Soccer League champions. Ever since Jali arrived at Chloorkop there’s been no season where he didn’t win a trophy. The five-time League champion had a stellar season in the 2021/22 campaign as he won the treble for the third time in his career.

It wasn’t just the clean sweep of domestic trophies, Jali was also rewarded individually, as he also won three trophies at the PSL awards.

“I am very excited to be recognized for my determination and passion for the team. These awards would not have been made possible without my teammates and the coaching crew. We fought gallantly across every competition we participated in and I am proud to be part of another historic season with Sundowns” Jali told the Sundowns website.

The former Pirates midfielder played a vital role for Masandawana, featuring in 40 games out of the 49 that were played by the team across all competitions.

“At a club like Sundowns, you must be ready to compete for trophies at the highest level,” he continued.

“Therefore, it is critical to build one’s fitness because of the number of games the team plays every season. I am glad that I was able to stay strong and competitive throughout the campaign”
