TWO players Kaizer Chiefs could – and should

Posted on April 1, 2026

The next PSL transfer window is fast approaching and Kaizer Chiefs have a couple of big opportunities.

There is currently a large gap in form and quality between current Betway Premiership leaders Orlando Pirates and defending champions Mamlelodi Sundowns, and the once dominant Kaizer Chiefs.

This is something a couple of signings could help change.

On loan

Let’s take a look at two Orlando Pirates players Kaizer Chiefs could – and should – sign.

As reported on The South African, Kaizer Chiefs could sign on loan striker Tshegofatso Mabasa who is currently on loan at rivals Stellenbosch FC.

The talented Bafana Bafana striker has been in good form for Stellies and has already registered three goals for Stellenbosch FC this season.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have struggled to fire in front of goal this season. Amakosi have scored just 19 goals in 20 matches in this season’s Betway Premiership.

In fact, Kaizer Chiefs have struggled in front of goal for several years now.

Amakhosi have not had a striker register double-figures in the PSL since Samir Nurkovic back during the 2019/20 season – six campaigns ago.

So, given Mabasa’s form and Kaizer Chiefs’ need for a clinical finisher, it would make sense for Amakhosi to pursue the attacker from their Soweto rivals.

AMAKHOSI MUST CONSIDER BUCS’ BAFANA BAFANA MIDFIELDER

Meanwhile, Kabelo Dlamini is currently in limbo having fallen out of favour with coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

He is now playing second fiddle – at best – to the likes of Makehleni Makuala, Relebohile Mofokeng, Patrick Maswanganyi and Thalente Mbatha in the heart of the Bucs midfield.

If he harbours any ambition of reclaiming his Bafana Bafana spot, a change of environment may just be what he needs.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have struggled for consistency in their midfield.

Players such as Thabo Cele and Sibongiseni Mthethwa have fallen out of favour with Hugo Broos and are no longer in the current Bafana Bafana squad.

So, I see this potential move as a win-win scenario for both parties involved.
