Victor Hlungwani has confirmed that he has not officially retired after spending 23 years as a referee within the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

His first game was in 1999 in the National First Division (NFD) between Matsena Giant Killers and Spartak in Giyani, Limpopo.

Hlungwani explained the status of his retirement situation, and what the next steps going forward will be.

“The letter of retirement has been submitted to SAFA and has not been officially accepted,”‘ he told iDiski Times.

“I was supposed to meet this week, but they said let’s meet next week because of the elections. The ball now is in SAFA’s hands, so I gave them the letter.

“From the discussions today I picked up that they want to place me somewhere. When we meet again, [and after] a joint statement will be issued.“

The 2011/12 Referee of the Year says that the first game he handled in the top-flight was as a fourth official in 2002. He now awaits the pending decision with regards to his retirement and potential portfolio thereafter
