Amapiano hit ‘Ngixolele’ attracts legal battle

Boohle and Busta 929 are at the center of a high-stakes legal showdown over their hit track Ngixolele, which has allegedly been used without permission in the popular telenovela The Black Door.

According to reporting by IOL, Mokima Music has filed a copyright claim against production house Black Brain Pictures, seeking R11 million in damages.

The case raises pressing questions about music ownership and licensing in South African television.

Sources close to the dispute say tensions are running high, with both sides committed to defending their rights.

“This case isn’t just about money, it’s about who truly owns the sound that’s dominating airwaves and screens,” one insider said.

Industry experts suggest the outcome could set a major precedent for how amapiano and other local music genres are used in TV shows and media projects moving forward.

As the courtroom drama unfolds, millions of rands, and reputations, hang in the balance.

While Ngixolele continues to dominate playlists and screens, its journey from hit track to legal battlefield underscores the growing pains of South Africa’s booming music industry.
