Two male suspects have been arrested in Mpumalanga after they were found slaughtering cattle believed to have been stolen.
The suspects, aged between 30 and 42, were apprehended earlier this week following a police tip-off about individuals slaughtering livestock on a farm in Mayflower.
According to police, three other suspects fled the scene upon noticing law enforcement, while two were successfully arrested.
Slaughtered cattle were discovered at the scene.
The suspects were reportedly planning on selling the ‘stolen’ meat to the general public.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed that the suspects are expected to appear before the Mayflower Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of stock theft and possession of stolen livestock.
A manhunt is underway for the remaining suspects.
Police have also warned the public against engaging in stock theft and purchasing stolen meat, stressing that buying such goods fuels criminal activity. Communities are urged to report any suspicious activities related to livestock theft.
