Gedo: Pitso Thought Ahly Is Like Sundowns

Former Al Ahly striker Mohamed Gedo says Pitso Mosimane thought managing the Egyptian giants would be like Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mosimane parted ways with the Club of the Century last week in what the club and coach stated was a mutual agreement after five trophies and two FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals won in 20 months.

Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib is said to have been urging Mosimane to stay put but the coach said his time at the club reached an end before shaking hands and parting ways amicably.

But former Egypt international and Red Devils striker Gedo suggests that the South African lost the dressing room and left before things could turn sour at the Cairo giants.

Ahly Coach On Mosimane Exit After Latest Win

“The relationship between Mosimane and Al Ahly board got to its limits,” Gedo said, as per KingFut. “Mosimane thought that Al Ahly is like Sundowns, he thought people wouldn’t criticize him if he wins trophies.

“He also lost the locker room and players’ support after criticizing them publicly, like Mohamed Sherif and Hossam Hassan. Al Ahly has been struggling with Mosimane in the recent games, it was his worst period with the team. I believe he chose the right time to leave.”

The three-time CAF Champions League-winning coach oversaw 98 games, with 66 wins, 20 draws and 10 defeats across all competitions since September 2020.
