The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have sacked Ehab Galal two weeks after his debut for the Egyptian national team.

Galal signed a two-year deal after the exit of Carlos Quieroz in the aftermath after failing to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup as Senegal defeated the Phahroes on penalties.

However, his stint has proved to be short-lived with a 1-0 win over Guinea, 2-0 defeat to Ethiopia and a 4-1 drubbing against South Korea in a friendly enough for the EFA to terminate his contract.

Galal was lured into the national team set-up after impressing with an attacking style of play at Pyramids, something the nation craved whilst under the leadership of Quieroz – despite reaching the FIFA Arab Cup semi-finals, AFCON final and the World Cup play-offs.

EFA board member Hazem Emam confirmed on Thursday that a foreign manager with a ‘reputable CV’ will replace Galal and several ‘big name’ coaches have applied for the role.

In addition, their U23 national team will also be led by a foreign coach as they look to restructure Egyptian football that’s been on a downward spiral in recent times.
