Al Ahly interim coach Samy Komsan has opened up on Pitso Mosimane after leading the side to a 4-1 victory in the Egyptian Premier League.

Ahly thumped the relegation-threatened side 4-1 with a second-string side as they allowed their international players to rest after the FIFA break, while several were ruled out through injury.

The victory moved them within four points of champions Zamalek ahead of the Cairo Derby this weekend, with the Red Devils holding three games in hand over the White Knights.

And after the game, Komsan praised the three-time CAF Champions League winner whom he worked under over the 20 months the South African was in charge.

“I thank Mosimane for the time he spent at Al Ahly,” the 46-year-old said in the press conference after the game, as per KingFut. “He is a great coach who I learned so much from technically.

“It was a great result and performance from the team, and the return of international players will definitely boost the squad. We are playing to win the league. It’s an honour for me to be Al Ahly’s head coach even if it’s just for one or two games.”

With two wins from two since leading the club, Komsan also spoke of the players that may return for the derby this weekend, as the likes of Aliou Dieng, Mohamed Abdelmonem and Percy Tau were among the notable absentees.

“[Aliou] Dieng did not play because he was injured, [Mohamed] Abdelmonem will be ready in four days, and Hamdy Fathi will be back to training tomorrow,” he added. “We will start the training camp for Zamalek on Friday, and I thank Mahmoud El-Khatib [club president] for putting faith in me.”
