SAFA have reacted after the Pretoria High Court struck Ria Ledwaba’s attempt to interdict this month’s SAFA elections off the roll.

Ledwaba had gone to the courts with a hope of stopping the elections, but Judge Brenda Neukircher struck Ledwaba’s application for an interdict off the roll.

“The South African Football Association (SAFA) has welcomed the decision by the Pretoria High Court to dismiss SAFA vice president Ria Ledwaba’s attempt to stop the Association’s Elective Congress due to be held on June 25,” SAFA said on their website.

SAFA CEO Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe said the Association was pleased with the court’s decision.

“SAFA welcomes the decision of the Pretoria High Court to dismiss the application brought by Ria Ledwaba,” the SAFA CEO was quoted as saying.

“The Association will continue with the preparations for the SAFA Elective Congress on June 25 and we are happy with the decision.”

“SAFA wants to reaffirm the position of world governing body FIFA and the Confederation of African Football to protect the right of its members to freely exercise their right to elect leaders of their choice without any third party interference,” the statement concluded.
