Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau was a notable absentee as Al Ahly cruised to a 4-1 win over Eastern Company in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday evening.

In the first match since the exit of Pitso Mosimane, Tau was not included in the squad after only arriving in Cairo this morning and is said to be scheduled for an x-ray with the club medical team to assess the extent of his injury he’s said to have suffered on international duty against Morocco.

But amongst the upheavel of the past few days, Hussein El-Shahat got interim coach Samy Komsan off the perfect start by opening the scoring in the 25th minute with a dinked effort after a sumptuous through ball from defender Rami Rabia.

Six minutes later the score was doubled when playmaker Taher Mohamed netted from the spot and the Club of the Century took the two-goal lead at the Al Ahly Stadium into the break.

Ahmed Abdelkader, who emerged as one of Mosimane’s key players this season added a third after 57 minutes as they looked to coast to the three points but the visitors managed to pull one back in the 76th minute through Firas Iffia.

Veteran playmaker Walid Soliman, who’s confirmed that he will retire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign added gloss to the finish with a 91st-minute effort as Ahly moved four points behind league leaders and reigning champions Zamalek – while holding three games in hand.
