- Motorists are urged to prepare for major traffic disruptions between Midrand and Fourways due to the LIV Golf South Africa tournament.
- No public parking or private vehicles will be allowed at Steyn City, with strict enforcement in place.
- Alternative routes and shuttle services have been arranged to ease congestion and assist spectators.
Motorists have been warned to brace themselves for significant traffic disruptions between Midrand and Fourways this coming weekend.
This is due to the upcoming LIV Golf South Africa tournament that’ll be taking place at the Steyn City Golf Estate in Johannesburg.
The event, which started on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, is expected to last until Sunday, 22 March 2026.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Department (JMPD) warned that public parking will not be allowed at the venue and private vehicles will not be permitted inside Steyn City.
“There will be no general public parking available on-site at Steyn City. Private vehicles will not be permitted at the venue, and parking along Cedar Road and Winnie Mandela Drive is strictly prohibited,” explained JMPD’s spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
Fihla says lawlessness will not be tolerated and illegally parked cars will face the might of the law.
Meanwhile, organisers of the event have partnered with Park-and-Ride SA and the Gautrain to provide transport services for spectators.
Shuttle buses will depart every hour between 8 am and 8 pm from key locations, including Montecasino, Mall of Africa, Sandton City, and Melrose Arch.
Several road closures and restrictions will also be in place, including a full closure at the intersection of Cedar Road and Runnymead Avenue.
Only residents with valid permits will be allowed access.
Motorists not attending the event are encouraged to use alternative routes such as the N1, N14, Winnie Mandela Drive, and Witkoppen Road to avoid delays in the Steyn City area.
Fihla says officers will be deployed throughout the tournament to manage traffic flow and ensure public safety.
