Brigadier Dineo Mokwele Recognised for Courage and Integrity
Brigadier Dineo Mokwele has received the Integrity Under Fire Special Award at the 2026 Whistleblower Awards, recognising her integrity and resilience in the face of institutional challenges.
The 31-year-old was honoured at a ceremony hosted by Public Interest SA at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.
Mokwele came under scrutiny in June 2025 when she was arrested alongside Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo and other senior officers on fraud and corruption charges linked to her appointment. The charges against her were unconditionally withdrawn by the National Prosecuting Authority in August 2026.
Evidence presented at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry indicated that Mokwele met or exceeded the advertised requirements for the technical position. Investigating Directorate Against Corruption head Advocate Andrea Johnson also testified that she had not reviewed Mokwele’s CV before approving the prosecution.
Mokwele was appointed brigadier in 2024 and previously served as Section Head: Technical Support Services in Crime Intelligence. She currently serves as Acting Section Head: Crime Systems Infrastructure Management in Technology Management Services.
She holds a Master of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Engineering and a National Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering.
The Whistleblower Awards recognise individuals who demonstrate courage and integrity while facing difficult circumstances.
