In remembrance of her late mother, South African songstress Lira, whose real name is Lerato Molapo, decided to honour her mother’s legacy through fashion at her birthday event on Saturday, 14 March.

On Wednesday, 18 March, the Feel Good singer shared lovely pictures and reels from her birthday festivities on Instagram.

In celebration of her birthday and her mother’s birthday, which was on 7 March, Lira opted to wear her mother’s stylish pink dress.

LIRA HONOURS MOTHER IN A FASHIONABLE WAY

The month of March holds an important meaning for Lira as it marks both her birthday and that of her late mother.

The multi-award-winning artist, who is also recovering from a stroke, celebrated her birthday at her favourite jazz venue, Hugh’s Jazz Club in Braamfontein.

Notable celebrities who graced this significant occasion included Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Hulisani Ravele, Judith Sephuma, and Terry Pheto, among others.

In her lengthy and sincere Instagram post, Lira fondly reflected on her birthday, revealing how the chosen dress, which is one of many that she “inherited” from her mother, made her feel connected to her all over again.

LIRA’S MOTHER PASSED AWAY IN 2024

In November 2024, Lira experienced the devastating loss of her mother, Buyi Radebe Lichaba, after surviving a tough cancer battle.

During a Women’s Day event in 2023, the Daveyton-born musician opened up about her mother’s traumatic battle with cancer for the first time, stating that she had to take a break from her own speech therapy to care for her.

“Eight months after I had a stroke, my mom was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer,” began Lira.

“This is a woman who is a health fanatic, spends hours at the gym, takes care of herself, and eats well. The cancer was a shock to us,” she added.

“The cancer took away her livelihood. She spent three months in the hospital; she was so sick,” she concluded.
