Kerr Fumes After Swallows Defeat

Swallows FC head coach Dylan Kerr was left fuming after their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cape Town All-Stars in the PSL Promotion/Relegation playoff clash.

Grant Margeman put the visitors ahead just after the hour mark at the Danie Craven Stadium which seemingly set the Dube Birds up for a comfortable win on the balance of play.

But two late goals from Ronaldo Maarman and Ndiviwe Mdabuka turned the game on its head for the All-Stars side that were already of contention for promotion to the DStv Premiership.

“We took the game to them you know, we controlled the game, I thought up until Wandisile [Letlabika] gave the ball away, a goal came out of nothing, just clear your lines, I mean you’re 1-0 up you don’t need to be clever there, Fawaaz has to deal with it better,” Kerr told SuperSport TV after the game.

“We had to take Sasman off and go back to a flat back-four, we didn’t look in any danger… then we give away a stupid goal that gets them back into the game and then a penalty, whether it’s a penalty I don’t know.

“But Fawaaz just has to put his foot through it, doesn’t need to take a touch – he gives them the ball and we concede a penalty, they had three chances but it’s about managing the game, we’re winning, keep attacking but when you make mistakes like that and get punished… it’s shocking.”

With Swallows now on four points from three games and AmaTuks on five points, the Soweto-based outfit need a win to retain their top-flight status and prevent the GladAfrica Championship runners-up to replace them in the league.

“Its winner takes all, we lost Junaid after he picked up four yellow cards, it’s now a matter of recovery, pick them up,” Kerr continued. “We’ve put ourselves in this tricky position now, where we could have gone in the game needing a point, now we need three points. Mistakes have cost us, you either have to punish teams or get punished.”
