Limpopo man to appear in court for allegedly raping a 92-year-old wheelchair-bound woman

The 47-year-old suspect will today, Wednesday 08 June 2022 appear in Limpopo ( Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court) after he was arrested for allegedly raping a 92-year-old wheelchair-bound woman at Hoveni village in Maake policing area outside Tzaneen.

According to Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela, the elderly woman was asleep in her house when she was awoken by the suspect at about 01h00 on Saturday morning, 04 June 2022. The suspect forcefully entered the house through the window and raped the victim before fleeing the scene.

Motlafela Mojapelo says the matter was reported to the Police later on the same day after the victim’s granddaughter went to check on her and made the shocking discovery.

Mojapelo says a case of rape was opened and Police immediately commenced with investigations.

He says the suspect was arrested on Monday 06 June 2022 at about 18:00 in the same village.

Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has sent a stern warning against the perpetrators of gender-based violence following this shocking incident and has commended the police for arresting the suspect.

“The arrest of the suspect should send a clear message to those who victimise vulnerable individuals, especially women and children, that they will be hunted down and brought to book. It is upon everyone to protect our elders to avoid such disturbing incidents from happening.” Concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
