Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender and South Africa youth international Thendo Mukumela is set to join AmaZulu, iDiski Times can confirm.

The 24-year-old is set to join Usuthu on 1 July from Cape Town Spurs after four years with the Urban Warriors that was rebranded from Ajax Cape Town two seasons ago.

Mukumela, who helped Spurs retain their status in the GladAfrica Championship, comes highly rated and will replace Thapelo Xoki at the KZN outfit, who recently joined Orlando Pirates.

An insider at the Cape Town-based club confirmed to iDiski Times that he’s signed with Brandon Truter’s outfit which sees the Masadawana academy product finally return to the South African top-flight.

Usuthu chairman Sandile Zungu confirmed two weeks ago that they will be signing eight players, who are believed to be the Malawian striker Gabhadinho Mhango, TS Galaxy forward Augustine Chidi Kwem, Dumisani Zuma who recently was released by Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United defender Veluyeke Zulu is also one of the club’s targets.

Meanwhile, the club are still in talks with JDR Stars for their Zimbabwe international forward Ishmail Wadi as they look to replace the likes of Luvuyo Memela and Augustine Mulenga.

As it stands the ball is in Usuthu’s court with the GladAfrica Championship side looking for their asking price to be met for the attacking talisman who fired them to a fourth-place finish in the second-tier last season.
