Broos describes critics as cheap and shortsighted | African News

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos insists the critics from the South Africans don’t bother him but rather motivate him to prove the critics wrong.
South Africa are on a three-match winless streak, including a 5-0 defeat by France.
Broos and his charges reported for camp on Wednesday ahead of the Afcon qualifier against Morocco. They are in Group K along with the Atlas Lions Morocco and Liberia.
While Morocco, who have 18 appearances at the continental showpiece, are favourites in the Group, Lone Stars of Liberia are considered the underdogs having only qualified for the tournament two times.
Speaking during a media briefing at Sturrock Park Johannesburg on Wednesday Broos said he did not understand the sudden criticism from the South African public given what they ‘achieved’ during the World Cup qualifiers.
“We had 13 points and a little research, in the last 10, 12 years all the qualifiers South Africa played in the World Cup and Afcon qualifiers you never had 13 points, the maximum was 12. So that means what we did was not so bad but still, after our match against Ghana there were critics,” said Broos.
“I didn’t understand it and it was worse after our friendly games against Guinea and France. So I don’t know why suddenly there were so many critics and I can assure you that for me those critics don’t affect me because they were shortsighted and cheap.
“It’s easy when results are not good starting to break over everything. Not the right choices, the coach has to resign and so on and so on. So this is cheap and short-sighted. I can assure you that for me it doesn’t affect me. It doesn’t put pressure on me, it motivates me.
“It motivates me to prove them wrong to those people. This is a part of the job of a trainer.
What I see today, is what happened with Pitso in Egypt, he won the Champions League two times and today they killed him, they killed him because he lost the final. So that’s life and I am 35 years in this job so it doesn’t depress me at all.
Broos has also cautioned those that believe the national team will have it easy in the three-team Group K of the Afcon qualifiers following the removal of Zimbabwe in the Group.
“After the suspension of Zimbabwe, I hear people saying it will be easy. No, it will not be easy. Maybe we have more chances now to qualify but it’s not easy. Nothing is easy even when you have three teams like Morocco and Liberia in the group, Nothing is easy, qualifying is not easy. It’s possible that with two victories against Liberia in September we qualify, but we have to win two times. So putting all of those two games in September would be very dangerous, it’s gambling and you know when you gamble, you can win a lot or but you can also lose a lot.”
