Danya Devs mourns the passing of his mother
Afro-soul singer Danya Devs, a member of the popular duo Blaq Diamond, is mourning the loss of his mother following her passing after a short illness.
According to a statement shared by the artist, his mother died on Sunday night and was laid to rest the next day, 16 February, just days after Valentine’s Day.
The timing made the loss even more emotional, as Danya revealed a touching gesture from his father in her final days.
Opening up on social media, the singer described the funeral as the most painful moment of his life.
“Yesterday was the hardest day of my life. We laid my mother to rest. I’m not someone who speaks too much, but I honoured her the only way I know how, through song and through dance. That’s how she raised me. That’s how she understood me,” he wrote.
He shared that during the service, Inkosi Mxolisi Buhlebezwe Wilson Xolo reminded him of the deep love his parents shared, a love that endured until the very end.
“I learned love from my parents. My father loved my mother sincerely and deeply. Even in her final days, he still remembered Valentine’s Day and brought her flowers, just two days before she passed. That kind of love is something I will carry with me forever,” he added.
The Bayede hitmaker expressed gratitude to friends, family and supporters who surrounded him during the difficult time.
“Thank you. It means more than I can put into words. To my fans and supporters, please bear with me during this time. I am grieving, but I will try my best to continue giving you my art, the way my mother would have wanted. She believed in this journey. She saw a glimpse of what Bayede is becoming.”
Despite the heartbreak, Danya confirmed that he will honour his commitments and continue with his tour and scheduled media appearances in tribute to his late mother.
“In her honour, I will continue with the tour and upcoming media appearances. We continue the Bayede journey together. I will see you in Cape Town on 28 February,” he wrote.
