‘They can win a quadruple’ – Former Olando Pirates captain

Orlando Pirates legend Happy Jele is confident that his former club can make history and win the quadruple this season.

The Buccaneers have already won the MTN8 and Carling Knockout this campaign and with the Nedbank Cup and Betway Premiership up for grabs, they have a chance of making history.

No South Africa team has ever won a quadruple. Pirates came close in 2012 but lost out in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup and only settled for a domestic treble.

Jele was part of the Pirates team, which last won the league in 2012. The retired defender feels the current team has what it takes to not only win a treble but a quadruple.

Can Pirates win the quadruple?

“I wouldn’t want to compare [the current team to the one of 14 years ago], but I believe they can do better than us,” Jele said as per Sowetan Live.

“This is a massive chance for these players to make history because we did the double treble. Look, they’ve already won two trophies [MTN8 and Carling Knockout], so why can’t they win the remaining two [league title and Nedbank Cup]? They can do it. “

Jele highlighted the importance of winning big games and felt that if Orlando Pirates can beat Kaizer Chiefs twice and get one over Mamelodi Sundowns, they have a great chance of winning the treble or quadruple.

“The most important game is always the next one. Let’s start with the one on Saturday [against Magesi]. You get to play Sundowns twice, and Chiefs twice.

“If you win you get six points, but six points won’t win you the league. You need to get points against everyone to be champions,” Jele said.

The Buccaneers are in action this weekend against Magesi FC.
