Shebeshxt to appear in court after alleged shooting in Polokwane

Police in Limpopo have arrested a popular musician believed to be Lehlogonolo Chauke, widely known as Shebeshxt, following an intelligence-led operation conducted in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Bendor, a high-end suburb outside Polokwane.

While the police have yet to officially confirm the suspect’s identity, spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the arrest was carried out by a joint team from the provincial investigation unit and the provincial tracking team.

The operation followed a warrant issued in connection with two counts of attempted murder linked to a case first registered at Westernburg Police Station.

According to Ledwaba, the charges stem from an incident that occurred on Sunday, October 19, 2025, when the suspect allegedly got into an altercation with another driver and opened fire on a vehicle, seriously injuring a 34-year-old man.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, while the case was later escalated to the provincial investigation unit for further handling.

“During the operation, police also seized the suspect’s vehicles for forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations,” Ledwaba said.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe applauded the swift action of the investigative and operational teams, emphasizing that the matter was being handled with the highest level of seriousness.

“We are addressing this matter with utmost seriousness, and we have appointed a dedicated team to thoroughly investigate every aspect,” Hadebe stated.

“The South African Police Service reiterates that no one is above the law, regardless of their social standing.”

Shebeshxt is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to face charges of attempted murder.
