Lasizwe Dambuza is taking his creativity to new heights with the launch of his cinematic YouTube series, Nomatriquency: The Funeral.
The debut episode marks a bold step for the content creator, who has elevated his channel into a full-scale production house.
“It’s growth. We’re not shooting on cellphones anymore,” Lasizwe told TshisaLIVE in a recent interview.
“YouTube can be taken seriously as another medium to consume content. This is about setting a new level in storytelling.”
The storyline, inspired by his personal life, draws from a painful breakup.
“The story was inspired by my ex. I went through a horrible breakup, so this story is me grieving my ex so I can bury him and move on. I’m using my life experiences to be creative and not let them consume me,” he shared.
Having worked in television, Lasizwe acknowledged the contrast between YouTube and traditional film production.
“In YouTube we shoot quickly, but in film we spend hours perfecting every shot,” he explained.
“Actors feel influencers are taking their jobs, so I decided to empower influencers who want to act, we’ll create our own space.”
With over 1.14 million subscribers, Lasizwe has earned the title of “King of YouTube.”
He credits his success to evolution and vision. “We started on cellphones, now we shoot with cinematic cameras. I want to create long-format series, something like a telenovela for YouTube that’s free for everyone to watch.”
