971 new COVID-19 cases reported in SA

The National Institute for Communicable (NICD) said 971 new COVID-19 infections have been recorded over the past 24 hours.

The NICD has also reported a further three COVID-19-related deaths.

About a third of them, or 377 cases, were in Gauteng.

The province was followed by the Western Cape with 191 cases and Kwazulu-Natal with 140.

The rest of the provinces recorded fewer than 50 cases each, except for the Eastern Cape which reported 71.

Just over 13,400 tests were conducted in the period, with a positivity rate of 7.2 percent.
