It’s undeniable that South Africa produces a number of captivating reality TV shows. From cooking competitions to unscripted real-life situations, there is plenty for viewers to choose from.

Most reality shows that have aired or are still airing, have left Mzansi feeling the need to dissect and share their opinions around the episode.

Here are some of the shows that do not fail to captivate viewers and get tongues wagging.

Uthando Nes’thembu

This show follows the life of a businessman, Musa Mseleku, and his five wives as they navigate a polygamous relationship, their family dynamics, staying true to tradition in a modern world and the sisterhood of the wives.

The show has been on screens for years, currently airing the ninth season. It is still able to keep Mzansi glued to their screens. It has also built momentum with Uthando Nes’thembu Uncut, where moments that the viewers have never seen before were shared.

The Mommy Club 3

The Mommy Club is a Showmax Original reality series featuring Joburg’s elite mothers, focusing on high-stakes drama, luxury lifestyles, and complex relationships.

Season 3 premiered in February 2025, featuring new cast members Mrs. J, Noksie, Pheladi, and Vuyi, alongside returning stars, with intense conflict leading to a two-part reunion.

Uyajola 9/9

This show is popular for investigating and exposing infidelity in relationships. The name is derived from the word “Uyajola”, which means “you are dating/having an affair”. Hosted by musician Jub Jub, the show has had many talking on social media, with some threatening to sue because it invades people’s privacy, while others continue to question whether the show is real or staged.
