38-year-old Hammanskraal woman hands herself over to police for killing neighbour’s toddler

Gauteng police have arrested a woman who is accused of killing her neighbour’s four-year-old son in Pretoria.

It is alleged that 38-year-old Tselane Lebohang Mautlu from Chris Hani in Hammanskraal fatally shot the child while he was playing with his friends in the street near the accused’s residence.

Upon realising that the child had been injured, the accused took him to a nearby clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival.

She then drove to the police station and handed herself over.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says the accused has since been granted R5 000 bail, with conditions that she relocate from Chris Hani, report to the police station twice a week, and refrain from possessing or using a firearm.

“Mautlu is facing a charge of murder for allegedly shooting and killing her neighbour’s four-year-old son, Abokeng Minyuko.

In court, the State opposed the accused’s release on bail, citing the seriousness of the offence and the fact that she is known to State witnesses. However, the magistrate ruled that it was in the interests of justice to release the accused on bail, subject to the stipulated conditions,” said Mahanjana.

The matter has been postponed to 15 April 2026 for further investigations.
