#Justice for AKA: 3 Suspects Reportedly Arrested In Connection With AKA’s Murder

The murder of award-winning South African rapper AKA, real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, has left many people reeling, and his fans, The Megacy, have been demanding justice for his family.

AKA was gunned down on Friday, 11 February, alongside friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane outside a popular restaurant on Durban’s Florida Road.

According to several reports, police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of AKA. The three unknown men were allegedly arrested in Cape Town, Western Cape, on Sunday, 26 March 2023.

A close source reports that police monitored the suspects last week before their arrest. A source close to the investigation told Savanna News that the suspects would be brought to Durban, where they are expected to be charged. The three suspects are allegedly in custody in Cape Town.

Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel André Traut did not comment when contacted by the publication. According to him, AKA’s murder is a KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) case, so police should be contacted for inquiries.

Upon contacting KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, he said:

“We have not received any update on the AKA case.”

On the other hand AKA’s bodyguard Anwar ‘Dogg’ Khan was recently featured one.TV’s My Guest Tonight with Annika Larsen. During the interview, he opened up on the events leading up to and following AKA’s death

Talking about that fateful evening, Dogg said the protocol was breached the day AKA was murdered. He said if he was there, none of this would have occurred because AKA was not supposed to be in Durban from the word go.

“Ninety percent of our work is the manner in which we move. It’s the planning, how you pre-plan, how you schedule your timing and placing of yourself and the person [you are protecting],” he told Larsen.

“In my absence, protocol was breached. Kiernan was called and invited to go to Florida Road (Wish) which he accepted and he went. Had I been there, that protocol would not have been breached, simply because that call would’ve came through the road manager,” Dogg said.

Dogg says,

Rules were broken, Kiernan Forbes was called & invited to go on Florida Road, had I been there that protocol would have not been breached. Simply because that call would've came through the ROAD MANAGER"🫢

A few days ago, AKA’s fans, The Megacy, penned an open letter to police minister Bheki Cele demanding answers and justice.

It read: “The murder of AKA was fully captured on CCTV, and there were many witnesses, yet, over six weeks later, the police have not made any arrests. The fact that there is a satellite police station right next to the restaurant at which the two were murdered and that the murderers can be seen on CCTV running past that station after the murders is an indictment on the police.

The letter continues “According to the latest data, about 82 people are murdered in South Africa every day. That means since AKA’s murder, about 3444 people have been murdered in South Africa. Mr President, if the police are not able to solve a murder case captured on CCTV, what hope is there that they will be able to solve all these murders, most of which do not have readily available leads or evidence as the AKA one?”

The Megacy also addressed the letter to the president, Cyril Ramaphosa, “Can you, with conviction, say you are satisfied with the performance of the Police Minister?”

“AKA was not just an artist, he was a patriot. He cared deeply about South Africa and performed, almost always, with the South African flag around his mic. The least South Africa can do for him right now is to ensure that his murderers are put behind bars,” the letter states.

“We demand justice for AKA. We need assurance from the police that they are indeed working on this case and that substantive progress has been made thus far”
