1400 suspects arrested over the weekend during #OKaeMolao operation

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela was joined by the Acting Mayor of MidVaal Municipality, Councillor Mokete Motsamai, as he led Operation O Kae Malao in De Deur, Sedibeng District this past weekend.

The operation that included roadblock, tracing of wanted suspects and stop and searches, resulted in the arrest of more than 100 suspects.

These suspects were found to have committed offences ranging from attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, rape, possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and tampering with essential infrastructure.

Parallel Operation O Kae Molao were conducted in other Districts within Gauteng bringing to a total of 1494 suspects being arrested over the weekend.

In Ekurhuleni District, members of the South African Police Service together with other law enforcement agencies, started the operations on Friday 01 July 2022, where more than 582 suspects were arrested for crimes that include dealing in drugs, possession of suspected stolen property, attempted murder, murder, failing to comply with Liquor Act, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, tampering with essential infrastructure and robbery.

Over 330 suspects were detained in Tshwane District, amongst those arrested, 186 were nabbed during the tracing of wanted suspects by the detective teams.

Other suspects were found to have committed serious and violent crimes such as rape, sexual assault, murder, car hijacking, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, robbery, theft, fraud, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen property and possession unlicensed firearm.

A total of nine unlicensed liquor outlets were closed down in Tshwane this past weekend and three illegal firearms were seized.

Various operations were conducted within the Johannesburg District and as a result, a total of 363 suspects were arrested for various offences. Amongst other charges, suspects were detained for fraud, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, murder, dealing in drugs, assault and dealing in liquor without a license.

The police in the West Rand District intensified their weekend operations, a total of 119 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from possession of suspected stolen vehicles, possession of explosives, possession of drugs, murder, house robbery and armed robbery.

Suspects will appear before different Magistrates’ Courts within Gauteng in due course.
