Ramalatso was elected unopposed during a special council sitting on Tuesday, following the resignation of former Mayor Dagma Mamanyoha.
Her election was met with ululation and jubilation from councillors.
Ramalatso has extensive local government experience, having previously served as the municipalityβs council whip and Speaker before joining the Executive Committee (EXCO).
She has also held leadership positions in the ANC Womenβs League, including reportedly serving three terms as Regional Secretary in the Norman Mashabane Region.
Mamanyoha is expected to take up the position of Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality.
Meanwhile, former EXCO member Councillor Regina Maake was elected unopposed as the new council whip.
Ramalatso is expected to lead the municipality through the remainder of the current political term, with service delivery and council priorities among her key responsibilities.
