Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng has reacted following the 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs this past weekend.

The draw has put the Buccaneers once again on the backfoot as they trail log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by two points with four matches remaining.

Speaking to the media after the match, Mofokeng said Amakhosi were a difficult team to play

“It was a very tough game against a very difficult opponent,” he said as per KickOff.

“The Soweto Derby is always difficult, but the gents did well. We managed to get one goal and even though they (Chiefs) also got a goal, I think we go away with that point.

Mofokeng reflects on derby draw with Chiefs

“We tried to create chances, we tried to defend well, we tried our best to make it in that game because we know that we want the league.

“We will just wait for our next game and  we are happy for the results ,we will not give up until the end of the season,” the Pirates attacker added.

Mofokeng received criticism following his performance against Chiefs. He wasn’t as effective but his pass to Oswin Appollis was instrumental in helping the team earn a draw.

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye lashed out on Mofokeng, saying he always freezes in big matches.

“When I say this is a game for big players, some Pirates players were robots, and I’m very disappointed,” he said on Saturday.

“I always say that Rele struggles in games like this, especially the derby.

“Appollis not much in this game and [Tshepang] Moremi, unfortunately, he got injured, but even the 15, 20 minutes he played, not much in the game.”

Mofokeng has been linked with a move away from Pirates and he could have played his last derdy against Chiefs.
