Gauteng police are investigating a case of arson following the torching of three trucks on the N3 highway in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

It is understood that the trucks were set alight on Wednesday night. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The trucks and their cargo were extensively damaged in the fire. All drivers managed to escape unharmed.

Gauteng police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza said the drivers noticed vehicles blocking the road before the attack.

“The drivers saw vehicles that blocked the road, and the suspects started shooting at the trucks as they were trying to hijack them,” said Kweza.

No arrests have been made at this stage, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Police have appealed to anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
