A man believed to be in his 30s was shot dead in Springfield Park, Durban, on Friday afternoon, according to emergency responders.
ALS Paramedics said crews were called to the corner of Ashfield and Willowfield roads shortly after 13:15 on 19 June 2026. Police have opened an investigation into the Springfield Park shooting, but no arrests had been reported at the time of publication.
Man Found With Multiple Gunshot Wounds
According to IOL, ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said emergency teams responded after reports of a shooting in the Springfield Park area.
When paramedics arrived, members of the South African Police Service and several private security companies were already at the scene. Jamieson said the man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene.
The victim was found lying on the roadside. His name has not yet been released.
Jamieson said the scene was cordoned off by SAPS and treated as an active crime scene. “At this stage, the events leading up to the shooting is unknown,” he told IOL.
Police Investigate Fatal Durban Shooting
Police and other authorities remained at the scene after the Springfield Park shooting. Investigators are expected to determine the motive and sequence of events that led to the attack.
No details have been released about possible suspects, a getaway vehicle, or whether the victim was targeted. Authorities have also not confirmed whether any firearms or cartridges were recovered at the scene.
The shooting happened in a busy industrial and business area north of central Durban. Springfield Park has several commercial sites, warehouses and traffic routes, which often draw workers, delivery vehicles and commuters during the day.
