Shebeshxt’s Bail Postponed to 12 June as Judge Flags AI-Generated Papers

Musician Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke must wait until 12 June 2026 to learn if he will be granted bail, after a High Court judge raised concerns about alleged AI use in his defence papers.

The 31-year-old appeared before the Polokwane High Court today, Wednesday in his latest bid for freedom. His attorney, Michael Khumalo, is appealing a magistrate’s decision from 30 April that denied bail, arguing the magistrate was biased.

But the judge postponed the matter after flagging that some submissions in the defence’s papers appeared unverified or potentially AI-generated.

Shebeshxt faces 20 charges, including attempted murder, robbery, and illegal firearm possession. The state has opposed bail throughout the proceedings.

The case will resume on 12 June.
