The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has condemned threats and remarks directed at a prosecutor involved in Julius Malema’s firearms case before the KuGompo Court.
It warned that intimidation of prosecutors undermines the rule of law, and must be taken seriously and investigated.

This comes after Julius Malema’s five-year sentence, where he was found guilty of violating gun laws.
As reported by ENCA, the prosecuting authority said it had noted with concern the circulation of content on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), purporting to represent the Economic Freedom Fighters, in which statements contain serious threats directed at state prosecutor Advocate Joel Cesar.
Cesar prosecuted Malema in his firearm case, resulting in the court handing him a five-year direct sentence after he was found guilty of violating gun laws.

“Threats against prosecutors, whether perceived as credible or not, must be treated with the utmost seriousness and reported to the relevant law enforcement authorities for investigation,” said the NPA in a statement.
The EFF leader was granted leave to appeal his five-year sentence. This comes after he was found guilty and convicted for carrying an illegal firearm and firing it in public. His legal team immediately appealed at the East London High Court, which worked in his favour.
The political leader and his legal representative, Advocate Thembeka Ngcukaitobi, had already revealed that they would be appealing whatever verdict is thrown to them, custodial or not. Malema made his appearance on Thursday morning in a packed courtroom in front of Magistrate Twanette Olivier to hear his sentence.
