Two people died and several others were injured in a Montana Golden Arrow bus crash on Monday morning, 15 June 2026, after a bus collided with vehicles on Valhalla Drive.
One of the victims was Shaun Francis, a butcher and father of five. His wife, Marilyn Francis, told Cape Argus she saw the crash unfold from her kitchen window while speaking to him on the phone.
Two killed in Montana Golden Arrow bus crash
According to Cape Argus, Francis was on his way to work in Woodstock when an earlier collision between two bakkies drew people to the road outside his home. Marilyn Francis said she was asking him about that crash when a Golden Arrow bus approached the scene.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk confirmed the incident to Cape Argus. He said a second person, a passenger in a Datsun company vehicle, later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Several other people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals. Cape Argus reported that a 29-year-old Opel Astra driver suffered minor head and leg injuries. A Kia delivery vehicle transporting bread was also involved.
The Kia driver sustained serious head and leg injuries, while his 24-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
Golden Arrow says crash remains under investigation
Golden Arrow Bus Services spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer told Cape Argus that the driver involved in the crash was in shock. In a statement, the company said the crash happened at about 06:30 on Monday, 15 June 2026, in the Montana area.
Golden Arrow said preliminary information suggested one of its buses encountered stationary vehicles on the roadway and tried to avoid them. The company said the circumstances remained under investigation and that details were still being established.
The bus operator also confirmed two fatalities and several injuries. It said it was co-operating with the relevant authorities and extended its thoughts to everyone affected by the incident.
Golden Arrow is a major Cape Town commuter bus operator. Its website says it runs more than 1,000 buses on over 1,300 routes, carrying about 230,000 travellers a day.
