EFF marks 13th anniversary with rally and manifesto launch in Thohoyandou
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is celebrating its 13th anniversary today, Saturday 25 July 2026, with a major rally and the launch of its 2026 election manifesto at Thohoyandou Stadium.
The event, addressed by EFF President and Commander-in-Chief Julius Malema, commemorates the party’s founding in July 2013 as a radical, leftist movement advocating for economic emancipation. Known as the “July 26th movement,” the EFF was established by Malema and other former ANC Youth League leaders following his expulsion from the ANC, with a core programme centred on land expropriation without compensation, nationalisation of key industries, and free education and healthcare.
Party statements in the lead-up described the gathering as a celebration of “13 years of challenging the status quo and advocating for the marginalised,” while also positioning the manifesto launch as a key step ahead of upcoming elections. Supporters have been urged to attend under the hashtag #EFFTurns13, with the party highlighting its growth into a significant opposition force since securing parliamentary seats in the 2014 elections.
The anniversary comes as the EFF continues to push its signature policies of economic freedom “in our lifetime,” drawing crowds of red-beret-clad members and supporters to the Limpopo venue.
