FutureRent has secured a facility from Kinto South Africa, Toyota’s mobility and financial services are, brining a new wave of Toyota vehilves into its subscription fleet.
The move comes as the company ramps up it mission to offer flexible, finance-free access to new vehicles in South Africa, no matter a customers credit history or background.
This is FutureRent’s latest milestone, following its R100 million (€5 million) raise from a German family office, its facility secure from Volkswagen Financial Services and the launch of South Africa’s first dedicated vehicle subscription app.

Mobility for Every South African
FutureRent was built on the belief that access to a new vehicle should come down to affordability, not a credit score.
Traditional finance shuts out informally employed workers, gig economy earners, entrepreneurs and first-time drivers still building their credit record. Locked out, many end up driving ageing, poorly maintained vehicles that are unsafe and unreliable, instead of a new, dependable one, simply because its what they can get. FutureRent removes that barrier, giving people access to a new car under OEM warranty and service plan.
“For too long in South Africa, getting behind the wheel of a new car has depended on your credit score, not your ability to pay for it,” says Henwood. “A young professional, a parent providing for their family, a small business owner and a graduate starting their first job can all get behind the wheel of a well-maintained, insured vehicle on the same terms.”
Bringing Toyota through Kinto into the fleets extends that reach further, giving more South Africans dependable access to a car that gets them to work, to opportunity and to their families.
“Every vehicle we put on the road is a person who can now get to a job interview, keep a shit, or grow a small business,” Henwood adds. “That’s the impact that matters to us as much as the growth numbers.”
A Growing Alternative to Ownership
FutureRent’s all-monthly fee covers the vehicle, insurance, servicing, tracking and roadside assistance, with no long-term loans or hidden fees. The addition of Toyota vehicles, backed by Kinto South Africa, strengthens that offering as demand grows for dependable, well-supported subscription vehicles.
“People want dependable vehicles without the long-term debt that usually comes with them,” says Henwood. “A facility with Kinto means we can expand our mission and offer that dependability at scale.”
Strategic Alignment with Global Mobility Trends
Kinto South Africa joins a growing list of institutional partners backing FutureRent’s model, alongside its German family office raise, its Volkswagen facility and its app launch.
“Form our first raise, to Volkswagen, to our app and now Toyota by Kinto, the momentum keeps building with every step, more South Africans get access to the mobility the need,” Henwood adds.
