DJ Poizen’s death in horrific car crash shocks Limpopo music scene

DJ Poizen, real name Cavin Masetla, has died following a horrific accident on the N1 near the Ysterberg mountain in Polokwane.

The 33-year-old musician from Tickeyline village in Tzaneen was traveling with fellow artist Chymamusique when the crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to authorities, the collision involved two sedans and claimed five lives, with some victims burnt beyond recognition.

Two others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital.

“Out of the five people who passed on, four of them were burnt beyond recognition and the two injured which include a driver and passenger were taken to a nearby hospital,” said Tidimalo Chuene, spokesperson for Transport and Community Safety.

Preliminary reports suggest reckless driving may have been a factor.

MEC Violet Mathye expressed concern over the rising number of fatal accidents, saying: “Our hearts are with the families and next of kin of those who lost their lives and at the same time, we wish a speedy recovery to those injured. I once more urge all road users to be patient on the road. I am seriously concerned about these accidents which are as a result of recklessness.”

Poizen, who was once part of House Victimz, had recently collaborated with Kabza De Small, Jus Funo, and Seraph IM on a single that was due for release in November.

His sudden passing has left the Limpopo and South African music scene in shock, with fans and fellow musicians flooding social media with tributes to the talented DJ and producer.
