For Pirates, the break provides an opportunity to reflect on a highly productive opening to the campaign. Their outstanding defensive record has been a major feature of their early-season form, while the one-point gap behind Sundowns leaves the title race finely poised.
Sundowns, meanwhile, have the benefit of having played one more league match and will use the recess to assess their progress after a demanding schedule that has included domestic and international football. Their latest league outing was a 1-1 draw against Chippa United before their FIFA Intercontinental Cup victory over Al Ahli.
Kaizer Chiefs are fourth with 13 points from seven matches, having registered three wins and four draws. The Amakhosi have scored 12 goals and conceded seven and remain unbeaten in the league.
For Chiefs, the break offers coach Fernando da Cruz and his technical team valuable time to assess why a number of matches have ended in draws and how the team can convert more of those encounters into victories when the league resumes.
With all three clubs also involved in demanding continental and cup commitments, the recess will allow their technical teams to manage player workloads, assess injuries and work on areas that require improvement.
The league resumes in October, with the three Soweto and Tshwane giants facing another congested period of football.
