The Mseleku family is bringing its familiar family dynamics to a new KFC campaign, with Musa Mseleku and his wives at the centre of a playful advert that has already sparked conversation.

The campaign uses the world of Uthando Nes’thembu to create a dramatic-looking family meeting — but there is a twist.

In the teaser, Musa sits down with his wives, including MaCele, MaYeni and MaNgwabe, as the family discusses the idea of sharing. MaKhumalo, however, makes it clear that she is “done sharing” and is prepared to draw the line.

MaKhumalo draws the line

The teaser deliberately plays on the Mseleku family’s well-known reality-TV dynamics.

During the family discussion, the conversation turns to sharing, with MaCele highlighting the importance of sharing within a polygamous household.

Musa also weighs in, suggesting that there is enough for everyone.

But MaKhumalo has a different view.

She refers to having signed a contract and makes it clear that, while she has no intention of leaving the marriage, there is one particular thing she is unwilling to share.

The mysterious contract and MaKhumalo’s firm stance have left viewers wondering what exactly she is protecting.

KFC behind the unexpected twist

While the teaser initially appears to suggest tension within the Mseleku household, the storyline is actually part of a KFC campaign.

According to the campaign material, the apparent family conflict is being used as a playful way to explore the idea of sharing — particularly the familiar feeling of wanting to keep something good all to yourself.

According to My Pressportal, KFC Africa Chief Marketing Officer Hloni Mohope said the campaign taps into something recognisable in South African culture.

“We all know someone who can’t help themselves when something good appears,” Mohope said, adding that MaKhumalo’s position is “funny because it’s true.”

Fans left guessing

For fans of Uthando Nes’thembu, the advert offers a familiar cast of characters in an unexpected setting, combining the family’s recognisable dynamics with KFC’s playful advertising approach.

And while the teaser may look like another chapter of Mseleku family drama, this time there is more to the story than meets the eye.
