Family Unable To Confirm Body Belongs To Missing Kempton Park Runner
The family of missing Kempton Park runner Elizabeth Mokolo Moselakgomo is unable to confirm whether a woman’s body found on Saturday is hers, with formal identification expected on Monday.
Moselakgomo, 38, also known as “Tsontso”, went missing after leaving her home in Rhodesfield for a run on Wednesday afternoon. She did not return home, prompting her eight-year-old daughter to raise the alarm.
Family spokesperson Genavieve Beukes said relatives who viewed the body could not identify it because of the extent of the injuries to the face.
The body was taken to the Germiston mortuary, where the family is expected to undergo a formal identification process on Monday.
The family has appealed to the public not to spread unverified information about Moselakgomo’s whereabouts or the identity of the deceased woman while they await official confirmation.
Her disappearance comes as police investigate the deaths of four women whose bodies were found in and around Kempton Park over about two months.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has directed Gauteng police to establish a multidisciplinary task team to investigate the cases after detectives identified concerning similarities.
Police have not confirmed that the deaths are linked or that a serial killer is responsible.
Women in and around Kempton Park, particularly Rhodesfield, have been urged to exercise caution and avoid walking or running alone in isolated areas.
