Her appearance came as accused number three, Mthobisi Mncube, continued giving evidence in the Gauteng High Court sitting in Pretoria. According to the State, Mthobisi is the man who fatally shot Meyiwa during the 2014 incident at the Vosloorus home of singer Kelly Khumalo’s mother.

A significant moment in the long-running trial

The sight of Senzo’s mother in court drew attention, as it was her first time attending the highly publicised murder trial since proceedings began.

The emotional court appearance comes almost 12 years after Senzo was shot and killed on 26 October 2014. His death sent shockwaves across South Africa and remains one of the country’s most closely watched criminal cases.

Mthobisi remains on the witness stand

Mthobisi, one of the five men standing trial for Senzo’s murder, remains on the witness stand as the case continues.

The prosecution maintains that Mthobisi was the person who fired the fatal shot that killed the soccer star during what the State alleges was a robbery at the house. Mthobisi has denied the allegations against him, while all five accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges they face.

A case that continues to grip South Africa

The murder trial has been ongoing for several years, with numerous witnesses, legal arguments and delays keeping the case in the public eye.

As proceedings continue, many South Africans remain hopeful that the trial will ultimately provide answers and justice for Senzo’s family after more than a decade of uncertainty.

The attendance of Senzo’s mother underscores the emotional weight of the case and serves as a reminder of the family’s long wait for the legal process to reach its conclusion.
