The 27-year-old winger/striker now commits his long-term future to Kaizer Chiefs, with head coach Fernando Da Cruz set to rely on him as the club prepares to compete in the Betway Premiership and CAF competitions.
He becomes the fourth signing of this transfer window after Thabo Moloisane, Renaldo Leaner and Adolf Mtasingwa.
KHANYISA MAYO STAYS AT KAIZER CHIEFS
Mayo joined Amakhosi on a season-long loan in September 2025, fulfilling a lifelong dream of following in the footsteps of his father, Patrick Mayo, who became a notable striker during his time at the club.
Mayo made an instant impact by scoring on his debut, although injuries and inconsistent game time limited his influence during the campaign. He featured in 15 matches, scoring two goals in just over 600 minutes of football.
Confirming the deal, Kaizer Chiefs said: “Kaizer Chiefs have completed the permanent signing of Khanyisa Mayo from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad, following his loan spell with the Glamour Boys last season.“
The club added: “Known for his pace, creativity, and eye for goal, Mayo has already established himself as a fan favourite at Naturena. His permanent move strengthens Amakhosi’s attacking options and signals the Club’s intent to challenge for glory both locally and across Africa.“
JOURNEY TO AMAKHOSI
Born on 27 August 1998 in Umtata, Eastern Cape before moving to Gqeberha, Mayo was developed in the SuperSport United academy before beginning his senior career with Royal Eagles in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. He later enjoyed spells at Richards Bay and Cape Town City, where he established himself as one of the country’s most dangerous forwards.
The Bafana Bafana international finished as the joint-top scorer in the 2022/23 PSL season with 12 league goals before following it up with another 10-goal campaign. He scored 28 goals in 88 PSL appearances for Cape Town City, earning a move to CR Belouizdad on a three-year contract in August 2024.
Having represented South Africa at U17, U20 and senior international level, Mayo now has another opportunity to fulfil his potential at Kaizer Chiefs after turning his loan move into a permanent transfer.
