A Golden Arrow bus driver has been praised for helping a seven-year-old boy who became lost after falling asleep during a bus trip in Cape Town.

According to Cape Town Etc, the child was travelling from Claremont to Harare when he fell asleep on the bus. He only woke up later when the bus was already in Langa and heading towards Cape Town.

What could have become a frightening experience ended with the child being safely cared for by the driver.

Driver Kept the Child Calm

Instead of leaving the child distressed, the driver stepped in and helped him stay calm.

The driver reportedly reassured the boy and kept in contact with his mother during the journey. This allowed the mother to know where her son was while the situation was being handled.

The driver also bought the child lunch and a cool drink using his own money.

Mother Thanks Bus Driver

The boy’s mother later shared her gratitude on Golden Arrow’s Facebook page.

She thanked the driver of bus 4862 and said she wished more bus drivers were like him. She explained that her son had fallen asleep on the bus from Claremont to Harare and woke up when the bus was in Langa, travelling towards Cape Town.

The mother said the driver treated her child with great care.

She said her son came home happy instead of upset after being lost. She added that the experience felt more like a tour for him than a frightening incident.

Trust in Golden Arrow Strengthened

The mother also said the driver’s actions made her trust Golden Arrow Buses even more.

The incident has drawn attention because of the driver’s quick thinking and kindness.

For many parents, a child getting lost on public transport is a terrifying thought. In this case, the driver’s response helped protect the child and gave the mother peace of mind.

Golden Arrow has not been reported as naming the driver, but his actions have clearly made an impact.
