Former Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Denying all charges, he has expressed through his lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, that he “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name”.

As reported by BBC News, the footballer is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, the 5th of August.

The alleged offences reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022. An investigation began in February 2022 after the police received a report of rape.

The charges involve three different women, with two counts of rape linked to one woman, three counts of rape in connection to a second woman, as well as one count of sexual assault relating to a third woman.

The Ghanaian player’s contract with Arsenal ended on the 30th of June. He had joined the team in 2020. According to IOL, he is currently without a club, and it remains to be seen whether these allegations will impact his search for a new football home.

Arsenal has since come out to express confidence in having followed the correct processes when dealing with Partey, who was under police investigation while playing for the club.
