Bafana Bafana ran riot at FNB Stadium with a morale-boosting 4-0 win over Sierra Leone on Saturday afternoon.
Themba Zwane who earned a recall to the national team at the age of 33, played a central role as he pulled the string in the 10 position behind Zakhele Lepasa while there were two debutants in the starting eleven.
Luke Le Roux slotted in alongside Sphephelo Sithole, while Mayambela was the other debutant on the wing, which also featured in-from Kaizer Chiefs winger Kgaogelo Sekgota.
And it proved to be a fruitful outing for the new-look eleven as they started slowly but showed some promising inter-play with ‘Mshihi’ eventually the one rewarded with a goal just before half-time.
Mayambela added a second shortly after the break, with a slick move resulting in a tap-in beyond Mohamed Kamara, who had an inspiring first-half display between the sticks.
But the floodgates then opened as Zwane bagged his brace and Aubrey Modiba added a fourth in 64th and 72nd minute respectively.
There were also debuts for TS Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi, Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley du Preez and Golden Arrows winger Pule Mmodi and Cape Town City’s Khanyisa Mayo in the second half once the game was wrapped up.
The win will no doubt serve as a confidence booster before their clash against Botswana on Tuesday as Broos managed to have a look at several new players before the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March.
