Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has hinted new signing Christian Saile Basomboli will be fast-tracked into the first-team.
The DR Congo striker, 22, was confirmed as their first January signing as he joins from Zambia Super League side Nchanga Rangers.
With Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana their only option up-front this season, luring a new centre-forward had been a priority target for Amakhosi who has scored 18 goals in 17 league outings, with seven coming from the Burundi international.
After three defeats, conceding six and scoring none in 2023, he admitted that Saile may be thrown into the deep end against Royal AM next week.
“We expect Christian to come in and hit the ground running but we don’t want to put him under pressure, there are many other players who can take the responsibility, so that’s why I’m saying, we’re just not hitting the target [enough],” he said at FNB Stadium.
“It’s not that we don’t get to the final third, I would be too worried if we not creating that chances at all – I mean in the second half, how many times did we enter the final and even close six meters from goal, where you think the player should just poke the ball.
“But some of the [efforts], Ronwen was just picking them up – because of being too hasty inside the box, we need composure, maybe an extra touch of the ball and that will help us going forward – which is what we will work on.”
Chiefs will host the KZN-based outfit next week at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday (17h30).
